The celebrated partnership of Longman & Broderip also manufactured keyboard and woodwind instruments. Many different London craftsmen worked for them. The company was declared bankrupt in 1798, this violin must pre-date that.

The decorative chevron purfling of this instrument typifies this company's attention to detail - their contemporary square pianos were generally more decorated than those of their rivals.
